My friend and I working on my 69 chevelle. Im having a local welding shop put on new quarters for me. These are half quarters. Are plan is to sand down the car and mask it and get it completly ready for a paint, to save the price. What I want to know is, Do you use body filler (bondo) to fill over the overlap? When your doing this do you use a little at a time and How high does it go up after the weld overlap. If all this is done right we can prime it paint it and put clear coat on it and I shouldnt have to worry about the filler comeing out.

Overlap?? The way I understand you is the shop will be overlapping the new quarter??
I'm sure it can be done this way, but I feel it would take quite a but of filler to blend and hide this transition. I would recommend flanging (if possible) or butt-weld the seam.
This is the way I've been doing quarter installs for years now and have had good results, with minimal filler and an easy to (dissappear) seam. Just my .02 worth.
Good luck with it and have fun. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Have the panels butt welded solid. Flanged joints can trap water and wind up rusting. Some people will flange the joint and then seam seal the inside. I personally think it's half-a$$ or the person isn't a good welder.
