I'm currently in the great process of removing paint and coating with epoxy. I'll be starting the filler and block sanding soon hopefully. I just wanted to get ideas on which paint is easier to lay down for someone with VERY minimul experience with painting. This is my first time actually doing all the body myself, and the epoxy is the first thing i've ever sprayed. I'm definitely not going for a near perfect/show paint job, just something nice to cruise around with.

I was planning on just doing it white, with maybe black on the top of the doors, fenders and hood. Like the orange car in Hot Rodding a while back. I'll try to attach a pic if i can find it.

I feel like the single stage will be easier because there is less steps to mess up with, but i may be wrong. So i look to the pros for advise.

Thanks

Here's a link to the chevelle i was talking about. I know this one has a super nice paint job, but that's just the idea of paint job i was throwing around in my head.

as a painter for a living i like basecoat/clearcoats, some people can lay out a mean singlestage paint job though. Either way make sure that you try out painting on a old fender or hood or something to get a feel for the gun and the paint. Make sure your compressor is ATLEAST 60gal. or you will lose pressure at the nozzle of the gun

One thing to consider is that single stage paints are considerably cheaper than BC/CC. As said above, practice first and use good equipment. Put on several coats and color sand the orange peal and other imperfections. I have a friend who is a novice painter and has turned out some pretty decent acrylic enamel paint jobs. Good Luck

White and Black? Go to Southern Polyurethanes Inc. and check out their singlestage urethanes. Excellent quality with good sprayability and economical prices. Spraying a solid non metalic color in singlestage would be easier for the newbie to learn and save some steps and $$$$. SPI's black is a true dark black.

Spraying a nonmetalic singlestage is very similar to spraying clear, spraying solid basecoat is easy in comparison. Metalic colors require much better gun control. Bob

It is my understanding that bc/cc dry a lot faster than enamels resulting in less trash on the paint job so less work finishing it out. Is this true? I am looking to do my 1st paint job soon and was planning on bc/cc for this reason.

I have stupid question to add to the mix; on a bc/cc paintjob, does orange peel occur like it does with ss and is it possible to wetsand it out? When would the wetsand occur, between the bc and the cc or after the cc is sprayed?

Thanks,
Daniel
