Hi All, Chevymans Dad here. Haven`t visited in awhile. Got a question for ya! How much trouble is it to put the 700r4 tranny in my sons 71 malibu? 350 motor an stock rear. Any help is appreciated. Jeff

not hard. If you search for 2004r swap you'll find lots of info. I did a PG to 2004r swap in my 69 convertible and it was a direct bolt in with the exception of the shift linkage. I had to move the cross member back 6 inches but the holes were already in the frame!

EDIT oops I didn't read that very well. I see you said "700 r4". That is a little different - I understand some drive shaft mods are in order and possibly some "massaging" of the transmission tunnel. A 2004r swap is definitely the easier of the two. And if you're worried about it holding up I've got it behind a 330hp 350 with no problems yet.

I have one in my '69. I think all you have to do is the drive shaft work and reposition the crossmember. My buddy did the same in his '71. Also I have a brand new Denny's Nitro drive shaft that may work in your setup if you go to the 700R4. Send me a PM if you are interested.............. I went to a 9" and this one is too short.
