Just had a nice conversation with the original owner of my 69SS. I started looking a couple weeks ago and got hung up on what turned out to be the third owner who has moved out of state. Well today I found some acquaintances of the third owner and within 1/2 hour had the second owners name and the original owners name and phone number. Turns out he lives about 25 miles from me. I'm the sixth and permanent owner of this particular 69 and it has never left this immediate area the entire time. He relayed some old stories about the car but unfortunately said he had no old pictures or documents. He purchased the car new after returning from Vietnam for $3,450.00. This will sound strange to many but he said he eventually became bored with it (396/4speed) and traded it straight up to his brother in law for a six cylinder/automatic Pontiac. He said his brother in law( the second owner) cherished the Velle and owned it for quite a while. During the search I met with and talked to the second owners brother. He confirmed his brother loved the Chevelle and wished he had never sold it. I gave him a nice picture of the car to give to his brother along with my phone number. When I talked to the original owner I said if he or his brother in law wanted to see the car again give me a call.During the conversation he mentioned the dealer that he bought the car new from. I don't believe the dealer is in business any longer. Does anyone know if any sales info etc. can be obtained from some kind of archives or if any info is available concerning old chevrolet dealerships?

You're indeed lucky. My car has had 4 owners since 1991 (and one since 1997), and the only one I've been able to talk to is the guy I bought it from. I have a name I found on a receipt in the glovey but it was from 1984 and I've never been able to track him down. I did find out the car came from West Virginia, though.

If you do manage to get some old pictures please post them. I love seeing that stuff.

cool story. i always wonder about the folks who owned my cars before me. like the day they were looking at it on the dealers lot, the first tops down cruise they took their friends on.
i love cars for what they are, but what's even better is talking to people about them and enjoying them with other folks. that stuff lasts forever, the car won't.

I know the whole history of my car. I bought it from my uncle who bought it from his best friend since high school who bought it new! :) I've known the original owner for about the last 20 years. He tells great stories about him and the car. I've even got a pic of the car from when he first bought it back in '69. Too bad I can't find the build sheet though...

Hi Andy,

What part of West Virginia? My brother sold an '69 S.S. 396 in 1984 in West Virginia. Probably a long shot, but who knows....if it is the same car I could probably give you a lot of information about it.
