Hi everyone, this is first time here. We are starting to restore our garage kept for 18 years convertible and need a new front bench seat. Does anyone know if the front bench in any of the other chevelles is interchangeable with the convertibles? We are having a hard time finding a replacement. Thanks.

Any GM A-Body should be interchangeable. The only difference would be the upholstery. You can get that at NPD. All frames should be the same. Do you have an existing bench seat, or is there not one at all & you want one, buckets conversion to a bench??

I agree with Lou. Any 2-door A body seat from 70 to 72 should be a good fit. The problem that can come up with the non-Chevelle seats is that , for example an Olds can have a center armrest for which there will be no equivalent Chev upholstery. No problem if you are going to get a shop to do a custom job for you. I have such an Olds seat in one of my '72 Chevelles. If you want to stay with a restoration and use the correct Chevelle style of upholstery, stay with a Chevelle seat. The upholstery that works well comes from 2 companies, PUI and Distinctive. I have used both and think they look just fine. These are available from any of the established resto parts houses. Be careful (actually avoid!!) the low prices stuff from one of the eBay vendors; there is a related post here a few days ago. As for the foam under the upholstery, that is available as a replacement part, but I am somewhat skeptical , a recent post stated that with the new foam the upholstery would not go in place. I have recently repaired damaged old foam quite easily and the finished seat looks good. Take a look in the free classifieds on this site and look for seats or for someone parting out a car. It may take a while, but the stuff is out there.

The bench in my '72 ragtop came out of my '70. I swapped the original '72 buckets into the '70. I had both sets of seats recovered in the correct years pattern.

Many of the other A-body cars had arm rests so stick to a chevelle seat. They are usually pretty easy to find. Check the classified section on this site. If you need to replace that back seat then you will have a much harder time. Those are convertible only items.
