I'm looking for a pearl orange for my car. The hitch is my painter isn't hip on House of Kolors products at all. He's shoots PPG products. I'm hoping I could find something that has the pearl in the basecoat instead of a 3ct system. Or if not a pearl maybe something metalic.I don't want a "solid" color like hugger orange.
This is going on a 64 chevelle mild pro street.

Any suggestions or comments would be great graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks
John

Well I belive the prowler has a nice looking orange that you could try or I have used a regular basecoat orange in your case and then applied a house of kolor prism pearl over it. The pearl comes in blue, pink, green and gold I believe. This stuff is house of kolor but it goes on perfect you basically can't screw it up its not like a pearl that is mixed in to the paint and likes to streak. Just apply 2 to 3 coats after the base then clear it. I did a light yellow with the blue over it and it looks sweet. The car looks normal except where the light hit certain angles and then it shoot a prismatic blue at you. If you can see a chip chart somewhere you will know what I mean. Its not hard to paint at all you may want to give it a try.

How about Flame Orange Metallic like the 72 Heavy Chevy's had on them.

If your painter insists on using PPG products then visit his supplier and talk with the paint reps they should be able to come up with a color for you. All of the paint manufacturers have some custom mix chips available. You could also create your own formula by mixing in small amounts until the color is right then bump up the mixture amounts for the amount of material needed. Or mix until color is right and shoot a test panel then use the color reader on it to come up with a formula. One thing to keep in mind, the more pearl the higher the cost. Bob
