Has anyone put a tilt column from a mid 70`s van in a 67 chevelle or el camino? They are very popular with the early trucks but I haven`t seen one in a chevelle or el camino. They don`t have a ignition switch on them and the gear indicator is on the column. I have been thinking of leaving the column shifter but I want a tilt and the originals are too much money and the aftermarkets don`t let you reuse a stock steering wheel. Any info would be great.

I have a friend that put a tilt column from a motor home into his 66 Chevelle. With some mild modifications, it looks like it came from the factory with it.

I purchased a van tilt column out of a 71. I had the yard disconect the fourway flasher and wired it to plug directly into the 65 wiring harness. Its a auto column shift. I had to cut the lever at the bottom of the column that the linkage connects to and move it around to about the 0ne o'clock position when its in Park. Using an adjustable linkage to get the 700r4 gear selector to position correctly, as to what gear it is in.

would you have any pics of it installed? I know that the 67`s have a different column but it should be pretty easy to install. I was just worried that it would put the wheel to close to the driver. I know it collapses at the end to shorten it so that should`nt be a problem. Thanks.

didnt vans have that same column right through to the late 70's? And did they all have the indicator on the column?

yeah I think through around 1979 or so were the same. I just said mid 70`s cuz I know they were what I was looking at. As far as I know they all had the indicator on the column. some of the later ones have a cruise control set up also. I had one with cruise in a 68 chevy p/u project. I think Ididit or someone makes a column with a similar indicator but they are too expencinve for me.
