Buy the strongest rear axle assembly that you can afford (IMO). Go with Moser if you can.

The Moser is stronger, but the GM 12 bolt can be built to handle it. I'd put one of the T/A Engineering covers on it to brace the bearing caps, and go with 33 spline axles if you can.

Little ol' GM 12 bolt works for me. Little bit more than 600HP/TQ too.
Does have Moser axles, ARP bearing cap studs, and support cover as BGH has recommended.

Basically, the axle tubes were welded to the center section, the axle tubes have the Ford style bearing cups welded on so no C-clips or Eliminators are necessary. Good ARP main cap studs are used along with a cast Moser bearing cap support cover. Moser axles and a GM posi with a steel clutches & 800 lb springs. Valvoline 80-90 dino oil with NO posi additives.
Including powdercoating the housing, complete new brakes assembly, & aluminum drums, I probably got $1800 or so in it.

Mine is a stock 12 bolt housing also. It's been in the car for 12 years. It started as a stock length rear with welded tubes, Strange billet caps, 33 spline strange axles with c-clip eliminators. I had a spool with 4.88 richmond pro gears. Now the rear is shortened with 33 spline Moser axles with the same gears and spool in it.
