You need to sand off all of the paint and gunk on the FRONT of the passenger side axle tube from about 2" off of the pumpkin, for about a foot towards the right backing plate. The stamped numbers located there will ID what it was originally.

He means the passenger side axle tube toward the front of the car from 2 inches away from the pumpkin in a straight line out towards the wheel. It is stamped, and you will have to wire wheel away the 30 + years of crud to see it. JN

Thanks!
What are the numbers that I found then?

It's a ten bolt, but doesn't look like a Chevy. I don't see the characteristic inverted V on the rear cover. Any numbers you find on it probably won't mean anything to us.

There may also be a casting number in one of the webs, something like 38xxxxx or 39xxxxx ending with either the letter N or letters NF, along with a casting date consisting of a letter - space - 2 numbers - space - number. The 12345 67890 are foundry numbers and are of no value to determine what the rear end is.
Depending on the year, the ID stamp would look something like this.

Did you ever get the casting number? That would help identifying it.
