I haven't seen any pictures of Chevelles with side pipes. Has anyone come across photos like that, or has a car with the sidepipes. I'm considering sidepipes for my 73 Malibu. I like the dual pipes I have now, but I will be replacing the entire exhaust system and I'm thinking of going with the sided pipes. Are leg burns really a problem with side pipes?

Here's a pic back in the 70s when my dad had side pipes on his 69...Wish I could find some.

I think the phrase "back in the 70s" explains why you don't see them anymore.

I had those leg burners in the 70's too! I heard somebody refer to them as "kick stand exhaust" 8^)

my first car was a 73 malibu my Dad bought new. I wish it looked like this one. Here is another picture of the Baldwin Motion.

I haven't seen her in 30 years, but my ex probably carries a scar on her right leg from a set of side pipes. And one on her left from a bike exhaust.
If you like 'em, run 'em, but the look is more fun than the sound. If you've got good exhaust now, I'd run them as dummies like a set of lake pipes. Then you can switch out without the pain of a new system.
Speaking of back in the day, did anybody have Purple Hornies?
