: How bad are 66 repo steel fenders???

I'm doing a frame off on my 66 SS, and I finally got a bodyman to come out an estimate the body work. The drivers side front fender is all warped to hell, from someone sandblasting it. He recommended that I replace it, because it would cost too much for him to fix.

I can't find a satisfactory OEM fender, and I've been disappointed with 99% the repo stuff I've bought so far.

Is repo a total no no? It's going to be about a $7000 paint job, so it has to be a very high quality part.

I'm pretty happy with my Goodmark 66 SS Hood, eventhough the metal is thinner.

Any advise is welcome.

All I can add to this is that a new repop fender, while probably not as good as an NOS fender, is probably better than what you have now. The only thing I can suggest is to try and find a good used fender. Try Desert Valley Auto at www.dvap.com (http://www.dvap.com) and try Hemmings as well at www.hmn.com (http://www.hmn.com)

I would try to locate used GM fenders.
The only problen in the salt belt where we live, it's getting harder to impossible to find solid peices. I am happy if the fenders
inner brace is intact, and only need a patch
at the lower outer skin. The new Super chevy
has a 67 getting a 3/4 re-pop ( Goodmark)
nose. The lines/gaps looked good in the pictures ! My be a vote of confidence ?

I also saw the super chevy face lift. I think it looked great when they got it done. I suppose if you buy both fenders then you have a mathing pair that way, I'm sure there a little different than nos but if you get two I think it would be more evened out (if you get my meaning) I'm looking at getting a whole front clip and after that article I'm going more towards Goodmark. My car will be a driver that I'll take to the shows now and then just to hang, if I win a trophy great if not oh well I think I'll still live. I've talked to some body guy's, some prefer to work with the goodmark fenders (no rot) and some are set on nos even if they have to repair. What ever I decide to do I sure wont buy a fender that needs major metal repair. Thats just my 2 cents. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
