Can I have the rear tail light bezels of my '66 re-chromed? I am thinking no, as these I believe are pot metal. Does anyone have a lead on a respectable repro? Southwestern Classic Chevrolet (Arlington Texas) has a repro ($70/pair) made in Taiwan with absolutely miserable quality. I politely declined after looking them over.

I.m.o these bezels are aluminum. I ordered my 66 outer tail light bezels for $69. I expect them to be the same repro's you saw (they were out for a while, but suddenly everybody offered them again late 2000). I had the same feeling when I received them, but after comparing them with the originals I found those to be more or less of the same quality.

You can find these all the time on E-bay, NOS sets are auctioned all the time...just do a search under the title 66 Chevelle or 1966 Chevelle in the Parts section of automotive stuff.
You can get an NOS set for practically the same price as these you quote and they are exactly what you need and want.

Thanks for the input guys. The set I looked at already had imperfection marks on them and I just cannot except that for a new part. Makes me wonder what they will look like in a year or two. I will check out E-Bay. What does NOS mean?

NOS means NEW OLD STOCK which means it's an original part that was never sold, still on the shelf...in a nut shell, it's an original part and not a reproduction.
CAUTION: I will remind you though, NOS parts are 30 + yrs. old, but usually in the package or shrink rubber molds., and as such may have some imperfections as well, but that is the way they came and that's the way these cars came...nothing was as perfect as we would like to believe. We just didn't pay as much attention to it in 1966.

Thanks Mike. Yea I know they may not be perfect. The ones on the car now are the originals and have 35 plus years of wear and tear on them. They look bad!
The previous owner lost this car to the bank as a repo. Put it up for collateral against a loan and defaulted on the loan. (argh for him, yea for me!) I just purchased this car 3 weeks ago. The majority of the car has been gone over and looks pretty good. Needs some detailed TLC but I took it to a local car show and noticed several people walking to the back of the car and pointing at the bezels. I wasn't sure why at that time. I thought they were just pointing to an imperfection. However, they apparently were knowledgable Chevelle owners/lovers and knew the bezels were difficult to acquire.
Later,
Paul
