: Suspension Color

I've got the my 66 frame and all suspension stripped and ready to blast and paint, but I've got a couple of questions maybe someone could help me with:
1) Are all the steering rods natural cast?
2) Are the front coils gloss black or gray?
3) What color were the rear coils? After removing the insulator, it was painted a lite blue like one of the return springs on the brakes. Is this correct. I'm assuming that they are orginal-I had to use a fire wrench to remove the bolts.

Many thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom, my 2c worth. Tie rods will be a dark cast color, the centerlink has a bluish tint to it, I think from a different type of heat treat process. Idler arm, the part that bolts to the chassis is a dark phos. black color, with the bottom cast. Ft. coils, I have seen 2 ways. either dipped in black, or they were just sprayed in 1 direction and they have black on one side and cast on the other, they are mostly black as they were trying to cover them but a quick job of it. (this was on a 3000 mi 66 by the way) The rear coils, I have had black, and the gray color you have mentioned. (this was on a Z-16) If I remember correctly it was like the shock gray. Hope that helps.
