I have a 67 Malibu. While stripping the front fenders, I discovered a series of holes that have been patched. They appear to be identical on both the left and right fenders. I believe the upper set of holes (about 3/16" diameter) are for the crossed flag emblems. Below these holes, and just above the reinforcement flange for the lower front fender extension, there is a set of three holes. Two of these are about 3/16" diameter, these are located on either side of a larger hole about 1" in diameter. I have not been able to locate any reference to this lower set of holes. They look like they could be for a side marker lamp. Any ideas?

I have no idea on what emblems go where on a 67 chevelle but it sounds like you have holes drilled because of prevoius body damage. Is there any dents, filler around the holes? In the past a very common method was to drill a hole in the center of the dent and then screw a screw in and pull out the dent. Just an educated guess

Check out the aluminum trim on this one, kinda like what was on a 68.

Are the holes in the area where the trim is in the above pic?

sevt_chevelle: I don't believe the holes are a result of body repair, as I mentioned both sides are perfectly symmetric and one of the holes is at least an inch in diameter (haven't seen a dent puller that big) and is a perfect circle.
Supersport396_2000 may be on to something. This car did originally have body side molding, the previous owner shaved it and filled the holes. The holes in question are located very near the moldings in front of the wheel opening in your photo. Most of the holes down the body side are fairly small; I never thought about these larger holes being related to side molding. May be that they located some type of clip. I'll look in my factory manuals for info on the moldings.

These holes appear to be too high for body side molding; they are just above the character line. Anybody else have an idea? The car is a Malibu 2dr sport coupe, originally with a 283.
