Hopefully spray time will be coming my way soon. My question is what is best. I've seen the result of two types of paint that looked and lasted well, they wer Glasuret and Spiezecker (not too sure of the spelling, I think both of them are German that are used on Porsches)The glasuret looked fantastic right out of the booth with no color sanding, polishing, etc. I've also seen alot of two stage paint processes that looked good as well, however I've heard/seen many Clear coat horror stories after a few years of driving and sun. I am also thinking of painting my 67 malibu, Hugger Orange if that matters with paint selection.

RM UNO(a product of BASF)is a great high solids ss urethane paint. I painted my elky cranberry red with it(first ever paint job)and it came out great. After color sanding it's like a mirror. An experienced painter probably wouldn't even color sand it.

I painted in my garage with the doors wide open and had to remove some dust particles and minor orange peel by color sanding.

I used 3M Finishing film on an electric da and the color sanding was done in a couple of hours. The buffing is the most labor intensive part.

Here's a good site for info http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?index and martinsr posts here and on that site as well, he's as knowledgable as they come!

Elcaminos are special!
I'd rather walk around with a Chevrolet hubcap in my hand than drive a Ford

Listen, I have been into about a thousand shops (no joke) and I can tell you this, ALL products can perform well. I will tell you the best product, the best brand bar none is, are you ready? The brand that is used by the painter you ask the question!

I have seen those perfect out of booth jobs in every brand you can imagine. I have also seen total messes and failures in all those very same brands.

What is much more important and the brand name is the jobber and how he will support you. Ask around town and find the store that will support you and your needs the best. That is my suggestion.
