: Low volts?

My volt meter reads about 12v at idle and 14v at higher rpms. Is the 12v at idle something to worry about? Also, at night when all the lights are on the volts drop lower. Only other electric accessories would be an electric fuel pump, radio, and msd ignition.

I have a 63 amp alternator with external regulator and battery in the trunk. The battery is about a month old. I suspect the battery might not be getting fully charged. During starting the cranking starts real slow for the first crank, but then speeds up and always starts the 502BB. When I first put the battery in it cranked fast from the start. I bought the new battery because I thought the old one was on it's last leg, due to the slow cranking at start.

What do you guys think? Does something need to be changed? How would I check the voltage regulator? Maybe I need a 100 amp alternator?

It can be. How much lower at night? The 63 amp alternator is marginal without the add ons.

What size cables did you use? Where do you have the battery ground hooked to? How does the battery tie in with the rest of the car?

I helped another member with the same problem you have.

I'll read those posts and check all the wiring tonight. I'll let you know what I find out. I didn't put the battery in the trunk, it was there when I bought the car.
