I got the old intermediate shaft off only to find a 1" steering column with splines. Now I am really confused. I have the complete GC intermediate shaft that is double d'ed at the top but measures only .620 at the D's and .700 at the wider adjacent diameter. Am I suppose to use the complete GC intermediate shaft or am I suppose to split them into and use part of the old shaft ?. From what I have read I thought the two end universile joints on the GC shaft was the proper setup. Though I don't know what I should be doing with the 1" splined steering column. I have printed out the Jim Shea papers on the Grand Cherokee steering box swap but I did'nt see anything regarding my 1" splined steering column.
Thanks again, Tony

You do not use the Grand Cherokee intermediate shaft, just the gear. You use the original I-shaft that was in your Chevelle. You will need a new flexible coupling to attach to the gear. It will require a 3/4 diameter splined flange to attach to the Grand Cherokee gear. The lower flange on your original I-shaft may need some slight modifications.

Believe me, I've done this, and currently have a GC steering shaft on my car... wasn't worth the effort. I will be swapping back to the Chevelle shaft, and will be using a Flaming River U-joint at the steering box, rather than a sloppy rag-joint.

Hey Derek, What is that you do not like about the GC intermediate shaft ?. Besides the connection problem at the steering column.
BTW thank you and Jim for the response.

The only way I could figure out to make it go on, just doesn't work well. It rubs my header.
