i'm about to buy a 70 chevelle that is kind of rough. it runs but the tranny is bad. my question is the only rust it appears to have is around the windows which the owner tells me is common for these cars, is this true and how hard is it to fix? i own a mustang but have always loved the 70 chevelle and need help from those who know about these cars. thanks

Hey bullit (name),
Welcome to the board! That area is very prone to rust, my 70 is in terrible shape around the rear window, of coarse it turned out to be way more problematic than I thought when I bought the car. Fixing it will all depend on the extent of the rust and the location of it around the rear window. Goodmark makes a new window to trunk panel, but aside from that it's mostly patching with sheet metal and the welder. I've been doing mine myself, and it's coming out pretty good. I bought a sheet metal brake and it has really helped out with those funny bends. Maybe you could post some pics, or do a search. There is a wealth of knowledge in the archives. Just out of curiosity, where are you located (if you don't mind telling).
Best of luck,
Brandon

thanks for the response. i'm in davis,ca near sacramento. i dont know the extent of the rust because i'm buying the car online. i should be picking it up next week (probably). i've installed parts on a 2001 bullitt mustang but i dont have the ability or space/tools to fix the rust. either i'm going to have to take it somewhere or get new parts and install them (1st choice because of money shortage). the car is a great deal and is exactly what i'm looking for, minus the rust.
