I've got a '69 Malibu with a 454/GM HEI set up. I want to install a tach just to monitor the engine. I see on Summit that they have their in-house brand for under $40 to other brands for more than $200. I don't think I need to spend hundreds of dollars as this is a daily driver and won't be raced. Is the Summit tach good quality, or should I go for something priced more mid-range?
Thanks for any advice.

Why do you need a tach at all? They just cost money and take up room in your car. And they look silly in a street driven car. I have driven a lot of cars without a tach and raced a lot of bikes needing a tach and would not have a tach in my car.

I use Autometer guages. I have a small tach in the car now and a larger tach with a shift light I use for racing. There's no need to spend alot on a tach for what you have planned. The Summit tach will probably be just fine., IMHO

I like Autometer gauges. Autogauge is their budget line.

One reason I have always felt that a tach is worth having in a street car is for the situation where you've dropped her down into a lower gear then forgot about it, and because you are playing the music so loud you don't realize it when it's reving up.
That tach is a good remiinder!
Here's a nice Auto guage tach, available in black or chrome:
