Hey all, I was considering changing to a better transmission. Right now I have a 350 trans in a 70 chevelle with a SB 350. I also have a MSD ignition with a 6AL MSD Box and MSD spark plug wires, holly carb 770 double pumper, holly fuel pump. I use my ride for street use not to race, and sometimes as a daily driver, and freeway use too. What sounds good to get: a 400 or a 700 transmission? Do these have any cons for ugrading? Would any of these two trans will they do more harm than good? OR Am I good with my 350 transmission? thanks all!

is there anything wrong/going wrong w/ your th350? if it's still shifting good and not giving you problems (noises, sloppy shifting, slipping, running hot or puking fluid) leave it for a while and put $ into something else (beats having a powerglide)
i have a 'raptor' 700r4 from http://www.transmissioncenter.net/ behind a built up 350 w/ the same msd goodies as you in a '69 landcruiser. granted it's a totally different purpose built rig but driving it to and from 4wheel drive trails it sees a lot of highway miles and the overdrive is killer,,, if you are going to upgrade trannies, i'd go for a solidly built/beefed up 700r4.. they had a bad reputation at first (late 80's through early 90's i believe) but if you get a rebuilt one from a reputable shop it'll be great for the street and highway!

A 700R4 is fine.. provided you are not above 400HP and don't race the car. Keep in mind you'll need a new driveshaft to make the swap. I used one for a while.. (that was "well built") but after my new motor went in I grenaded it 3 times. I now have a TH400 and no issues. I don't see any reason why you would want a TH400 since it takes more power to run a 400 and you aren't gaining anything with that mild of a combination. If you change.. it should be to get overdrive.
