: Will an overserviced trany spit out the fluid?

I just reinstalled my engine and transmission (th350). Went for an enthusiastic drive and noticed smoke in my rear view mirror (the tire smoke was already gone by this time). Brought it home and found that the bottom of the car on the passenger side near the transmission was wet with trany fluid. The transmision itself was still dry in the area aound where the dipstick and cooling lines enter the case. But immediatly adjacent to that area on the floor board of the car I found it soaked in fluid. I checked the fluid level and found it overserviced by about a pint.

Is there a vent in that area that might spit out fluid if the trany is a little overserviced. I havent gotten far enough under the car to actually see the spot where the fluid is exiting the gear box.

It probably spit the fluid out of the Filler tube. Yes they will self level when you over do it.

Filler tube area is bone dry, as are the cooler lines. It's like it spit the fluid out the right side or possibly the top with out leaving a mess on the transmission itself.
Wierd, I'm going to give it another good look tomorrow.

There is a vent tube on the top, driver's side of the tranny.

What you are describing is exactly what I said. It comes out of the dipstick tube and the windage along side of your engine deposits it where you said. It will also drip on your passenger side exhaust system.

I've had this happen on my own car with a TH350.

Got a look at it today. The filler tube is bone dry, this includes the top. In fact the highest point I found oil was at the transmission oil pan gasket adjacent to the right side header and passenger floor. I de-serviced the trany down to the correct mark, tightened the oil pan a little and took it for a gentle spin. So far so good, no transmission leaks.

Now if I could just stop my head studs from leaking water I'd be all set. But thats another story. (Indian head shellack doesn't seal studs very well)
