To get the perfect measurement. 1 Slide the front yoke into the tranny and put it on or near the mark it was with the other transmission or about 3/4" from bottoming out. Lay the rear of your shaft on the ground or hang it to the side with bunggie supports. 2 With rear end in DRIVING position or jack it up into driving position. Measure from the center of the front U-Joint to the center of the REAR U-Joint or to the front of the Rear end yoke where the bolts and strap go or the U-bolts go. The bottom line is!!! You want a Center to Center measurement of the U-Joints. This is the measurement the driveshaft people NEED. NOTHING ELSE. Your shaft will be shortened appx. 2" Depending on WHAT 700 you are using. I put a 700R4 in my 70-454. If colum shift STOCK Shifter works, remove the arm from stock tranny bolt on to 700. Stock cooler lines work, I have a 3:08 12 bolt rear. 454 turns 1950 RPMs at 75 MPH. on highway and 19-21 MPG. with a 396 I got 21 with air 22-23 without air. and high 14s-low 15s at the strip. If I can be of any more help just ask, my RED 70 SS 454 wagon has had the 700 in it for 5 years. P.S. Get the O.D. loc-up kit from Indiania. If interested will get you info. Love the 700 only way to travel, Comes out of the hole like a rocket. First gear is 3:06 way deeper than a muncie. Bob ACES 2825

Bob ACES 2825- I'd be interested in info on that lock up kit from Indiania, I still haven't decided on how I'm going to do mine. I saw a kit from some shop the other nite that looked like it was well thought out and reasonable (like $180), locked up the converter eight seconds after the trans shfted into OD, I think it was Bowler Transmissions? Anyway, still wieghing my options and would like to see what your running, esp. if your happy with it.Thanks-Mike
