How much do you figure it would take to do the whole frame of a 69 chevelle and the underbody of the shell? Thanks!

We used 1/2 pint on the engine compartment, frame, firewall, radiator core support. I was supprised at how far this goes. I would say one pint will do. So in my opinion buy one quart just to be sure..........bk

Yep, a quart should do it. I sprayed the frame, firewall, floor panels (inside and out), trunk, radiator support, and radiator, with just over a quart.

It seems that this stuff is pretty thick. What did you mix it with and what was the ratio if you did? Thanks for all the input.

They sell a thinner for it but I don't know what ratio to recommend. I've always just used it straight from the can with a brush and/or a roller.

I believe their ratio is not more than 5%. But I found that when the product sits for some time it thickens up and I thinned as much as 20%.
If you spray be very careful and get the proper respirator and have pleanty of fresh air available.
Make sure you are not enclosing yourself with this product.
I sprayed the entire bottom of my Chevelle body, it was supported about 2 1/2 to 3 feet off the floor. When I got under it to spray I found myself really confined without enough air and it wasn't very healthy to say the least. It took a couple of days to recover.
Caution on the side of safety and your health.

Buy it in small quantities though. When you open that can, it starts the curing process. Use a ladel and scoop it into a secondary container and paint out of that container. You can't leave a can of Por 15 open and paint out of it the way you do a can of house paint.
When using Por 15, you want to open the can, take what you need, and close that can as fast as possible. And always use Saran Wrap underneath the lid when you put the lid back on. Otherwise, the lid will weld itself shut and will be almost impossible to reopen the next time you use it. Be sure to refridgerate it when you store it.

SHELF LIFE is 6 months on a sealed can. Found this out the hard way.The opened can that I put in the refridgerator over a year ago is still good.

Are you guys top coating the POR in the engine compartment? It's UV sensative. I tried the POR ChassisCoat Black and it's not as nice as POR-15 when applying. What are you guys using over th POR-15? Or are you just letting it sit exposed?

Tim.

I left it exposed so far. I don't like the way the silver looks that I have not top coated yet. Kind of a green tint to it.THE BLAK HAS HELD UP WEEL. Car cover maybe responsible for the black POR 15 not changing. The folks at POR15 did send some new paint to replace what dried up on the shelf in the unopened cans.

Por 15 will only fade when exposed to direct sunlight. It won't fade when it's used under the hood on parts like the radiator support or inner fender wells.
The chassis black is not UV sensitive and when using it as a topcoat, you simply topcoat as you would if applying two coats of regualr Por. That is, apply it when the previous coat dries to the point where your finger drags when you try to move it across the finished surface. Some people, myself included, like the chassis black better because it's closer to the original color.

One thing that the local POR guy (gal) suggested about the paint drying in the can is - never, ever, ever open the can. Instead, poke a tiny hole and thread a #3 or larger philips head screw into it.

When you want to use some, take the screw out and pour some into another container to paint from. Put the screw back in, turn the can upside down (coats the screw to seal the can), and put it back on the shelf. I've been using the same quart of black for a couple of years now, it's still just fine.

I must have got a bad batch then. The stuff in brand new cans was hard as a rock after sitting on the shelf for at least a year.

Although the new cans they sent are actual metal cans instead of the plastic ones that my first batch of paint came in. They did add a note and said the shelf life is only good for six months.

I bought the small "six pack" and a quart of POR almsot a year ago. I used the six pack, but still have the quart. After reading this post, I was scared and went to check my unopened can out. It still "sounds" like it's ok. I sent POR-15 an e-mail a few months back asking how long it was good for, and they told me about 3 years if the can has been unopened......I'll find out soon. I plan on ripping out the interior and doing my floorboards with the quart I have...
