I just bought and installed a set of Delta H4 Halogen Headlights from OPG.

My problem is after 2 minutes when the hi beam is on (all 4 lights on) they start to blink off and on. This includes the dash lights and the hi beam indicator.

I have isolated several things. One if I unplug either Hi Beam there is no problem. I replace once of the hi beams with an old light there is no problem. I can switch either side and it makes no difference.

I have put on a new voltage regulator and still have the problem.

I have verified the ground it good.

I have talked to Delta about the lights. Owner said he has never had the problem before and had no suggestions.

He did say that each light drew 4.5 amps for a total of 18 amps when all are on.

There is no problem when the engine is not running or at idle. When I bring the RPMs up to 1500 to 2000 it takes about 3 minuets and they start to blink off and back on. It is a very quick off and then a 4 or 4 sec delay and it happens again. I do notice that when I bring the idle up the lights get brighter.

Theroy is something is overloaded and a relay is braking open and then going back closed. No problems with fuses. They nerver blow.

ANy one have any ideas ? HELP !!!!!

You are popping the circuit breaker in the headlight switch. You will need to run the headlight wiring through relays to prevent this. Search this forum using "Headlight upgrade" for your criteria, you'll find what you need to do.

There is an automatic resetting circuit breaker built into the headlight switch.

You may have to add a headlight relay.

OOPS, I type too slow :o

Thanks for all of the help. I think this has solved my problem. I will post a message after I get some relays installed.

Boy they are hard to get a hold of. I have called the number on the Web site all day and it is always busy. Is there someone else who has these relays ?

They are generic relays, nothing fancy. There are simliar products available from Painless and possibly American Autowire.

The real value to the "kit" is that it includes all the wire and terminals too.

Note that it also sounds like you need an alternator upgrade if you are seeing a significant change in the light output between idle and cruise RPMs. One of the gotchas on halogen lights I remember reading long ago is that they are dependent on full voltage/temperature to keep the bulb happy. Lower the voltage/temperature and the molecular structures do not recycle as needed leading to shortened bulb life.

The "cube" relays are sold at many auto parts stores. Usually in the accessory area that has driving lights and such. The catch is that most of them do not have the sockets that the relay plugs into. Weird. A trip to the junkyard may get you the sockets. Or,,, you might get the kit that JCWhitney has in their lighting section. It has the socket and pigtails and relay and of course instructions.
