I am in the process of dismanteling and painting my 72 ss e.c. and I would like to know how to get the upper door/window frame stainless molding off without destroying them...any suggestions??

With the old "church key" type can opener. Use the rounded side (with a bit of tape to prevent scratching). Start at one end and slowly pry/lift a LITTLE bit at a time. Pry a little, move over an inch or two, pry, move over, pry etc. It may take 2 or 3 passes, you DON"T want to try to pry it off in 1 shot.

FWIW- I've heard that the door trim is now reproduced.

Ditto to the above..Oh and it's not stainless it's anodized aluminum.I took mine in to a chrome/polish shop and he said was nothing he could do for it.Best thing he said to do was buy new...So I just left mine off my Elky when I painted it in January...Looks fine without it..

I don't know Rick I sanded off the anodizing with 400 and polished with stainless polishing bar( the Eastwood kit) followed up with white rouge and they look better than NOS (and by the way that's a problem)
Ps using soft buffing wheels only
Pss I took mine off with a small block of wood ,carefully tapping around pieces with the heel of your hand

Ac72rat,I've heard that if the anodizing is removed and polished it will need to be clear coated or the aluminum will water spot and dull in time  I have no experience with that only what I've heard! FYI

You may be right Rick alum wheels are clear coated, I use Flitz as a metal polish leaves a protective film ---works well for me
