I have a 68 chevelle and I would like to get a new front bumper. I have seen several on eBay for $159 or so. Has anybody here purchased one of these? They claim to be new...how do they look? Do they fit good?

Thanks for your help,

Grape, there are mixed emotions here about the repro bumpers. Some have used them and loved them, others have not. There was some discussion awhile ago about the fact that they weren't as thick as an original. Several people here stated just that. One member, however, measured and did a comparison, and found that his repro bumper was the same thickness.

One thing that seems to be agreed upon, is that the chrome is " driver quality ".

Hope this helps. I am just going by what has been posted before on this site. I have never ( to my knowledge ) seen one them in person.

If you can, ask the seller where they are made. Probably Taiwan.

I have heard mixed reviews as well. Most have told me to get my originals rechromed as they "Fit" and are heavier. Sso that's my plan.

There used to be a company that sold on ebay called 123 classics. They sell the GoodMark brand GM licensed repro bumpers. They get $155 for their bumpers, and shipping is a little less than ebay as well.

About a year ago my son bought a set of bumpers from a supplier on e-bay for our 70 chevelle. The bumpers fit fine and were a lot prettier than the scared originals. On the box they came in, was marked made in Taiwan.I was discusted for a little while but what the heck they were a lot better than what we originally had. I don't remmber the exact price but I think they were about $160 each. I am also discovering that the cheep radiators that are listed on e-bay are also made "over seas",the made in USA parts are pricier.

I bought a 70 rear bumper from 123 classics on Ebay. It is very nice. I usually go with a rechrome, but for the price, right around $159 i figured id gamble. I'm happy, and it is from Goodmark.

With that being said back when our cars were brand new sitting on the GM lots werent they all "driver quality"....

Personally, I'd look to get an original and have it redone rather than a repo piece.

This is just my .02 opinion

With the way restorations have progressed over the years, " show " vs. " driver " is used to refer to numerous areas of the restoration. People ask " Are you building a show car or a driver? " or " Is your paint going to be driver or show quality ". Driver quality is closer to what came on the car originally, but alot of people, myself included, go the " show " route, and make the cars far better than they came off the line. Most top level restorations are far superior to anything the factory ever did, including paint, component finishes, engine detailing, and yes, chrome plating.

A local muscle car parts company (evergreen muscle car parts , Auburn WA) carries goodmark bumpers for $179.

Is this a good price? Are these good bumpers?

Thanks Again,
Grape Ape (my 68 is dark purple hence the name)
