Got my Chevelle back from getting all body work done. Mechanic switched out starter while it was in. Now a jumped battery drains after only a couple of hours. A new battery will drain after 2 days. Changed battery and alternator. Did an Alternator test and checked Fuses with a test light and voltmeter. It is still drawing from somewhere. Terminals are clean as well.

When the mechanic switched out the starter he did not hook a cable back to the "R" terminal on the starter, could this have something to do with it? He said it wasnt needed.

Thanks for you help, this place is great!

The wire on the starter's "R" terminal is only needed with the original points type distributor but wouldn't be the cause of the battery drain because it only goes to the old coil's + terminal which is only hot with the key on.

You disconnected a battery cable and connected a test light in series between the cable and the battery post?
Keep pulling fuses / unhooking things until the test light goes out.

Sometime weird things like a trunk light or underhood light will not shut off if not properly adjusted. Do you have any aftermarkets, like an amp .... If so, check that ... Feel for warmth ( after sitting overnight ) on things like alternator, coil, any relays, etc... check thing like a stuck lighter.. heater fan .... I just discovered recently that the 67 Chevelle I have owned for almost 5 yrs, the tach was wired to full time 12 volts and drawing current. I was re-bundling some of the wiring and noticed that the tach would not reset to 0 when I placed it on a 12 volt switched. It needed the 12 volt feed to reset to 0 after the car was turned off ... we live and we learn ...
