Well, I stripped down the 1/4's and top of my SS. I knew there would be some rust, so I'm not too suprised by what I found. I attached some pics at Yahoo. What's the best way to go about fixing this? I do not want to put the vinyl top back on. There's rust around the posts for the top molding. Judging by the pics, how should I go about repairing this. The car is a #'s matching 40 K car and I want to keep it. The 1/4's are original and I can't see any rust on the inside areas. I also live in Arizona, so rust is not a real problem. Obviously this car came from the rust belt.. (Illinois) Thanks for the help....

Yep, the picture folder is empty. Based on your statement that there is rust around the posts for the top molding you have 2 options:
1) You are not removing the molding. In that case I have used a hand-held sandblaster to clean it up. Then, if there are holes present you should grind it flat, weld it up, flatten it out, and put in new posts.
2) You are removing the molding. You are almost forced to grind the posts and rust off, weld it up, and flatten it out.
Hope this helps, the pictures would be useful.

Okay thanks for the replies. I'll check Yahoo and see what happened...
BTW, I am leaving the top off.
