ok, i have heard that the more coats of color and clear you put on the better.

I guess i'm thinking of doing 2-3 coats of color.
and 3-4 coats of clear.

1 coat of clear gets wet sanded away right?

The least amout that works is the best for durability. How well the base color covers is what dictates how much you put on. Get a "sprayout card" from your paint supplier, it is a card that is half black, half white, and you paint it until you can't see the difference in the two halves. Look at it in the bright sunlight. Be sure to clear it as well. You'd be surprised how many caots of paint some colors take to fully hide. You may need up to 6 or 7 coats with some of the newer pearls. Just be sure to allow enough time for the basecoat to flash off between coats so your clear doesn't solvent pop or die back. I usually use 3 to 4 coats of clear, as I sand the clear flat before I buff it.
