Read through Martin's write-up in the attached thread. I understand the importance of what he is saying about templetes. However, doubt I can get the guy at a yard to follow his instructions when he fires up the chop saw.
Question is:
I want the entire roof skin including the area under the rear window. The frame and pillars on my car look intact and solid. I would expect the junk yard guy to cut below the roof so I can re-cut it where I need it.

All you need to do is have the guy cut it off thru the back of the "cab" under the window and thru the BOTTOM of the front posts. Then YOU make the final cuts using the template technique.

You would never even think about having them cut it for me in any way. All you want it a hunk of the car that contains the roof and you take it from there.

Now, I have done an ElCamino roof once. I have to say, first off, I seriously doubt you will find a roof with the bottom of the window that is any better than what you have now. They are ALL rusted. This part is available in the aftermarket (I made mine because none were available back then) and you may be able to only replace the roof skin which is what I did. It makes the job a WHOLE lot easier than doing the complete roof.

Helped a friend do a 72 Elky roof two years ago.. some guy instaled ( HACKED) an after market sun roof in... :eek:

we skined the roof and peiced the inner roof panel with out distrubing the inner sail and side door frame .. made LIFE alot easer..
