Can someone help me with a link to some photos of a properly redone (or close to it ;) ) engine bay of a 64? Starting to gather info for my new project. :D

From what I understand the firewall is the same color as the car, the inner fenders skirts are black, either semi-gloss or satin black, the under side of the hood is the same color, the radiator core support is the same color, frame is same color, and everything else-engine and all is engine color for that year. Here is a link to an all white restored car.

Chrysler products were the only ones with the firewall painted the exterior color.
I'm positive that it should be black.

Thank you BAD425 for the update, I was just getting to that part of my resto. I havent painted the floorpan or the firewall but if it is suppose to be blak, black it will be.

Hmmmm....not sure I'd want to use that one as a go-by.

Its not correct under the hood, esp the intake manifold and air cleaner. Truck floor is not right either.

I imagine 65 would be the same.
Drop me an email, and I'll shoot what ever pics you want.
My engine compartment is very close to correct.
Hopefully a 64 owner will step up.
The offer stands regardless.

Thanks! I looked at your webpage the other day. Sweet looking car. I liked that color "back in the day".....unlike some. A friend had a full size SS Impala with a big block that was Evening Orchid.

Canadian built cars have a body color firewall.

Here's a shining example of a correct '64 Chevelle with a late release 327 300-horse L74. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/data/500/medium/64_underhood_L74.jpg

A 283 will have different valve covers, but I seem to think it too will carry a black and gold horsepower decal on the lower edge of the cover. I might be wrong on that though. I can't verify it because I don't have access right now to an original road test out of a '64 Motor Trend that features both a '64 Malibu SS coupe & an El Camino Custom powered by the 283/220.

The early '64s use a different master cylinder cover that is retained not by a bale wire as shown above, but an actual bolt. 'All 64 Chevelles powered by factory 327s would be considered late production.

See my showroom for a nice large version of the scan above (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/showphoto.php?photo=7243&cat=500), and while you're there check out the black & white picture of the chromed six there as well (a '64 L61 230).
