I am replacing the interior of my 66 and re-painting the upper strip along the door. I want to REMOVE and REPLACE both the inner and outer window felts( They are the incorrect flat style). No problem with the inner ones since I am repainting.

But the exterior paint is in excellent condition even after 10 years and I don't want to damage the paint. What is the best the a way to get the felts out without damaging the exterior paint? Thanks, Jim

I may not have the best advise because I didn't care about my paint or damaging my felts. I used a screwdriver to pry them off. My outer ones had 2 screws along with the clips securing them - the inners had no screws. The screws are located at the end of the strips. The rear one is easy to remove but the front one is a little tricky due to the window. If you already have the new window felts, look at how they attach. This should help you understand how they come off. You have to lift them up & in. Remove both inner ones FIRST to get an idea of how they come off. This should help you remove the outers without damaging your paint.

It helps quite a bit to lower the windows in the doors. Pull your door panels and loosen the lower window stops towards the bottoms of the door. This will let you roll the window down past the felts so you can get to them. Simply put the stops in their original location when your done.
