I went to the body shop today and asked about getting my patch panels welded onto the front fenders of my '67. I was told that no-one around here welds them on any more. They use glue. I've never seen this done. What kind of glue is it? He told me it was put on with a caulking gun. What's involved and is it worth it?

My local Napa has the stuff, different expoxies for different materials, such as plastic to metal, fiberglass to metal, metal to metal, etc... I thought about trying it but it's not cost effective, the stuff is kinda expensive. I believe about $35 for a tube, and another $40 for the gun. I might try it if I ever do any big panels again, such as my hood scoop. Would've saved me a lot of time working out the bit of warpage I got when I welded it. graemlins/clonk.gif
The tube it comes in is actually 2 tubes, part a&b, and it mixes in a special tip as it's squeezed out. Just like the Simpson epoxy for setting bolts in concrete.

Try doing a search on glueing and adhesives. You'll find tons of info about this topic.

Sure do!
Use 3M 8115 at work, but on MY stuff I use Fusor products. Believe its a better product and plus it comes in smaller tubes then what you can get 3M glue in. That makes it more user friendly to me. Also something to note Fusor is the ONLY adhesive recommended by GM

I used the Duramix brand to put my 1/4's on my Elky :D Glued all along the bottom edges of the 1/4's welded the top edges....Stuff works great.

We glue panels all the time. It's great stuff. The metal surrounding the jointt will tear before the glue will separate.
If you're doing more than a small panel, I would beg, borrow or steal a pneumatic applicator. The "glue" is thick and the honey-comb tip that mixes the two parts requires somee muscle.

This stuff sounds pretty good. No warpage, that is really attractive. But how do you hold something as big as a quarterpanel in place while it sets up?

Screws and vise grips, but not real tight you don't want to squeeze all the glue out. Mike

Can you use this on the rear window patch panel for a 67 Chevelle or would welding sitll be the better choice?
