Anyone know how to do that? My doors aren't rotten yet but the rust started between the skin and the door frame itself and I'd like to catch it before it gets out of hand. Any suggestions or at least a way to slow it down? Thanks!

when you say seam Im a little confused but on my doors they have surface rust where the sound deadener has fallen off into the bottom.
I am goin to roll the window up and spay POR in there.
I havent sanded the outside skin yet to see if its rusted also but if its not that is what I would do. If they are rusty also I'll get new skins.
Hope this helps Chris

What I meant was on the bottom of the door where the skin folds over, near the drains.

The only way to fix rust is to remove it by cutting it out. You never slow down rust, you slow it down in one spot then comes back even harder. You need to remove that lower portion of the door skin and install a patch or reskin the door. No sanding or sand blasting will fix it. All you will be doing is removing the visable rust not the rust that is making the problem in the first place which would be inbetween the door skin and the door frame.
The only way to repair it is remove it and replace it with fresh metal but if you are looking for a easy but non lasting fix sand blast the seem and apply some etch primer. Also make sure the drains on the bottoms of the doors are clean and not plugged up...Eric

Agree with sevt_chevelle if badly rusted at inner foldover to door frame, it is terminal. However, if the flange is NOT swelled up REPEAT<NOT> swelled up where it meets door frame there may be some hope. Remember, when the door was assembled all parts were bare metal. Skin was folded over & spot welded to door frame flange. It is bare metal between skin and door frame. Once again if it is not swelled, sand blast &clean all rust you can get to, protect with etch primer, caulk, reprime prior to refinishing. Inside of door, be sure all dirt, loose chunks of under coat are thoroughly cleaned, blow with high pressure air to clean inner areas. Use acid brush, apply por 15 or similar product to inner edge where outer meets inner frame. After door is painted apply a good runny rust proof product. As svet_chevelle stated, this is not a permanent fix, unless rust is very minor, you cannot get to real cause of problem without removing door skin cleaning all and replacing skin. Good luck, Karl
