I have come to a critical point in the rebuilding of a front suspension on a recent 68 chevelle acquisition, and would like any experts on the subject of difference between a 67 and the 68-72 front control arms. I have a full set of control arms from a 67, which I would like to transplant into the 68. I have read there is a difference but honestly measuring the two, stacking them, and sitting them side by side; I am stumped; I honestly cannot find ANY difference between the two. what exactly is the difference? And can they be used in the 68 chassis without affecting camber/caster? thanks in advance Jason.

the difference is in the bushings. round, small round, oval

Thanks for the input Bradford, but I believe the 64-65 control arms are like that, not the 66-67. That was one of the first things I checked, no oval bushing, they appear identical in every way. JN

Oval front lower control arm bushings were phased in during the 1969 model year. Believe the reason was to "mushify" the ride, in other words to provide a more soft ride, to move more to what was deemed to be desirable at that time.
The roundy round crowd who use these chassis, desire the 64 to early 69 round bushing arms. 64 to 72 upper and lower control arms (front) should be dimensionally identical.

Please anyone, as I need to get a unanimous consensus.

Lowers are all dimensionally the same from 64-72. There were some differences in bushing diameters but I'm not sure what year they changed. The early cars had 2 equal diameter bushings, then they put a larger one in the rear, and later changed the rear to oval.

I think this link will help you. There was a transition in 1966 from large round double-sleeved bushings to small round bushings. The ovals were not around in 66. You may find some 66 cars with oval bushings in but that is because GM used oval bushing arms as replacement parts for broken arms.
