: CAM BUTTON in BBC?

I am installing a Comp roller cam in my 396, to replace the larger one, I had recently installed. I have a polished aluminum cover. It is very shallow. I know I need to run a cam button, and I know that the roller type cam button won't fit. I was wondering if I could use a nylon button and file it down to fit under the front cover? I will use a lock plate of course. What are your opinions? I do have a stock cover of course, but I would like to use the aftermarket, polished cover.

Yes, that is what I did. White nylon botton in the cam gear, shaved down to achieve the proper cam end play.

I,m in the process as I type this out installing a polished aluminum cover on a BB Chevy with a short button. I'm curious as to what is the ideal clearance, what do you guys set it at ? I set mine with .005's, wondering if this is too tight or should it be zero. I'm using a Moroso button with the plastic top for a SB Chevy. I'm using two small flat washer's (.052's each) to tighten up the clearance.

Thanks
