Hey does anyone know when they stopped using the canister type filter? I have a 70 chevelle getting ready to put a crate 454 in however it looks as if i need the adapter kit for the spin on, not happy. Harley

As Bill stated, however the good news for you is they are available everywhere in the automotive aftermarket for about 20 bucks. Heck I think even Autozone carries them. JN

Thanks Bill thats what i thought also however the motor that i purchased which was to be a match for a 70 chevelle 454 i guess isn't unless they consider the adapter extra because all i have is a blank hole with no thread to use a spin on filter. Harley

Just make sure to spin on a Wix or NAPA oil filter. ;)

Steve, have you been noticing rapid bleed-down even with A/C filters?
Harley, I do believe they carry it, the small block and big block are identical for the part number, the BB will use the large bore holes for the 2 bolts to mount to the filter boss. JN

IMO the best filter out there is a Wix. They also make the NAPA filters. The HP4 Fram on my new motor is only there as a mockup, trust me on that! It will run with a NAPA 51060R on it.

Harley,
I don't know of any 454's that used the canister filter. Are you sure that you dont just need the oil filter adapter that is held into the block with two bolts ? How about a picture of the filter mount area, that will tell for sure.
