Some of you posted in my previous thread about places to see in montana. Here is a pictoral tour, if anyone cares to look and/or comment:

Palouse falls was created by the great missoula floods. If anybody lives in the northwest and has never heard of them, google "glacial lake missoula" and you will probably be enlightened. For instance, some would be interested to know that all the good topsoil in the willamette valley originally came from eastern washington.

Along the way we drove up steptoe butte which is somewhat of a geographic anomaly. It is one of only a few places in the area that did not get covered by ancient lavaflows. This is obvious because it is the only thing in the area that consists of the kind of rocks it has. What a scary road that was!!

Next pics are from baldy point out of St. Maries ID, which is a large hill/butte you can drive up a ways and we hiked the rest of the way up to the very top for some nice views and photos. I thought the large rockslides were pretty neat.

From there it was more highways clear to glacier. We drove along a highway which I believe was un-numbered, through Avery, ID. The St. Joe river was worth a few pics so I stopped. It wasn't too hard since the highway had a 35mph speed limit! On the MT side was a gravel road. Alot of nice scenery but we didn't stop for pics. (also nice are 70 mph highways...)

Here are tons of glacier pics... they are all nice IMO.

Glacier is awesome, almost surreal. The water in that river was such a cool color. Way better in person. There is a narrow winding road that takes you up to Logan Pass visitor's center. From there we hiked up as far as our flip-flops would allow before the snow was too deep.

Those are some amazing pictures. Man, I would love to have been there to see those myself. Truly amazing. Is is OK if I used one or two for my desktop background? I didn't know Montan was so nice.

I used to live in northern Idaho and spent lot's of time at Glacier Park. On the Canadian side, there's a park called Watertown.

Did you ride up the 'going to the sun' highway? Should have been snow up top. Always fun to make snow angles in July!

Seems like you had a nice trip. You brought back some memories for me. Thanks.

PS, Surreal is pretty close!

Hey Mike. You're my neighbor to the south just a bit. Did you go to the super chevy show last month? Do you race at Huntsville drag strip? Email me when you get time. We have a few things in common.

My wife and I went to Glacier Park in 1976 (before kids) in a 1975 Fiat Spyder. It was one of the best times we ever had, driving that little car on Going to the Sun (??) road was a blast, and climbing the glacier out of Many Glacier Lodge was quite an experience, too. :D

Is it really crowded up there now? We've thought about going back, but I don't want to go if it's turned into a tourist trap like Yellowstone has.

Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for bring back some memories...used to live in Kalispell. The last time I was at Logan's Pass the snow was coming down like crazy...in the summer!!
There is a lake on the eastern side of Glacier NP that has a shore which has a very unique property to it. All of the stones are flat...perfect for skipping. Wore my arm out:D !! Weird phenomenon.

Again, thanks for the pics.

It was a great and relaxing trip. We tent camped at a site right next to lake Mcdonald. The spot was good, the only downfall being its close proximity to the going-to-the-sun road. There were vehicles driving over that at most times of night/morning.

I did get pics of some mountain goats from high on the "sun" road but none of them turned out worth a damn.

As far as being crowded, I really didn't find it that bad. Our campground filled up each day but it had very few spots anyway. I am one who can get annoyed by crowds pretty quickly and I had no problems! Only thing was those old red tour busses really putt up the "sun" road. 15 mph in warm weather on that kind of a climb with the ac on really made the monte heat up..

I saw a special on glacier after I returned and saw a lake called "ice lake". If/when I go back I want to see that, it was very cool.

Montana is real nice, nice pics. I had a little diff. view last spring, the pics are mostly from I-94.
