Dear Guys...I read through the search stuff, but still don't quite get it. I am planning either Cortez silver with a black stripe or LeMans blue with white. I was worried that the painter might not get the stripe exactly the way I like it so I figure to purchase a decal from NDP or other supplier. I asked the shop if they would clear coat the car over the stripe...even if that was a second or third coat of clear. They said they don't clear over decals. I am not quite sure I understand this. Is there a reason not to clear over a decal?

Thanks R. B.

RB,

Some decals are not easy to clear over. Depends on the material... Regardles of this issue the side stripe/decal for your 69'SS will have a "parchmented" finish. This finish is a dull finish and is intended to be that way. Clearing over it would give it a high gloss finish which would be an incorrect finish. The parchmenting is designed into the decal so that if you accidently get wax or polish on it it will remain as a flat finish.

Rod, I've got pictures on file here of all the various measurements for the stripes (distances from side lights, SS decal, door handle, etc.). Actually did it for another TCer. I'll send them down to you via email. It won't help this "gloss" situation, but at least you should be able to get them lined up right.

Thanks guys, that explains it. With Don's pics I have confidence that this will be done correctly. Thanks Brian now I understand about decals.

Why don't you just get the stencil kits that are made for painting the stripes on?
