You dont know how bad I hated to post this....my wifes cooling fan went out and the mechanic replaced it. When we picked it up he told us the A/C had went out. He told me he could make it run, but coundnt find the problem and his honda guy had went to another shop. The compressor is not coming on at all. It seams that it should be a simple fix cause it worked perfect up til then. I cant find a bad fuse or anything. 95 Honda 4 cyl. Any help is defanitly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Look around under the hood for any plugs that might have gotten knocked off during the fan replacement. Good luck.

The fan replacement or the broken fan problem may have lent a hand in the compressor not working. When you turn on the AC. Both fans should come on. Thus the fans are tied together in the ac circiut.

If I turn on the A/C neither fan comes on.

try tapping on the fan motors. this should trigger the motor sometimes and let you know it is faulty doesn't always work but 50/50 chance with honda's like yours. the motors are easy to install if you got common tools save yourself the money if the motors are bad and by them from honda and install!!!

As mentioned above, the secondary cooling fan should come on when you turn the A/C on. The relay that engages the compressor clutch also triggers the 2nd cooling fan. If the relay is not being activated either due to a bad thermostatic switch, or a low refrigerant pressure situation (there is a switch that won't allow the compressor to run unless there is sufficient refrigerant in the system), then the fan nor the compressor will engage.

I have never heard of a "Honda A/C guy". If you know A/C, the same principles usually apply to 99% of the cars running around. Sounds like he just flat does not understand how A/C systems work.

You can do some simple tests to see if it is in the wiring-which I believe that it is. You can unplug the connector at the compressor and probe the 2 terminals on the harness side (not the terminals on the compressor). One should be a ground, and the other should be 12+ when the key is turned on, and the A/C switch is in the "on" position. If you don't find current at the connector, you will have to figure out why. Start by:

Checking all fuses in BOTH fuse boxes. Hondas often have a box under the hood and under the dash.
Locate the under hood box and find the A/C relay. Swap out that A/C relay with another relay in the same box to see if that fixes it. If so you know it was a bad relay.
Check for loose wires, cut wires, disconnected plugs and anything else that might have gotten messed with during the other work that was done.
If all of the wiring checks out, check the refrigerant level to see if they accidentally vented the system. If they vented the system, the compressor won't come on as mentioned above.
There are other things you can check, but start here. If you need additional assistance feel free to e-mail me and I will assist in any way I can.
