I am in process of my first restoration project and am doing a frame off on a 70 chevelle. I am trying to remove the 6 body mounts. The front two came off easy. The middle 2 and the back 2 broke loose but the bolts just spin. 2 questions. (1) are the nuts not fastened to the body? (2) If they are not, then do I have to cut holes in the floor and the trunk in order to get to the bolts.
Any help appreciated.

The nuts are caged. I had the same experience you did, with almost the same bolts. I ended up measuring for the exact locations of the nuts in the trunk, then used a 3 inch cutoff disk to cut a 2-3 inch square hole in the trunk floor, (since it is due to be replaced, anyway) I then cut the nuts by cutting them into "X"'s. The bolts dropped out.

Did you then weld in replacement nuts?

It depends on what you are doing with them. If you are talking about the ones under the rear seat then you will have to cut a hole out weld in a cage nut and patch the hole back up. Thankfully I did not have to do this.
If you are talking about the one under your trunk pan ajacent to the wheel wells then the same would apply unless you are replacing the trunk pans and braces. That is what I did and the braces came with a new one.
If you are talking about the rear ones in the tail panel under the rear bumper then you will have to cut a hole in the trunk pans. I had to replace these when the trunk pans were out. There are 4 here. 2 hold the body to the frame and 2 mount the bumper to the body. Yes had to weld new ones in.
You can get the new cage nuts from the sponsor here Ground Up.
Hope this helps. If you still don't understand, send me an e-mail and I will send you pics of the areas I am talking about.
