We are planning to replace the top on our 72 this winter. But it has now developed a small tear (2") in the right rear where the "C" pillar would be. The tear is only through the outside liner but grows with every raising and lowering. It is very old but I would like to patch it so it will last until the show season is over. What works best for a temporary fix.

Duct tape :D
Why not get the top replaced now?

We do not have that kind of down time in the summer months. Duct tape will not stick, I already tried that.

Leaving the top down and the tonneau cover in place. No one will ever know your top is torn.

Have you tried the "iron-on patch " trick? The rip can be fixed with a patch behind/inside the top....I'ld use a heat gun with a 1/2" board to press aginst the patch.....or a Iron.Make sure you rub clean the inside of top so the patch will stick.

I have been using the top down method, it only works when it is not raining and the new parade boot does hide a lot. I will try the iron on patch. Thanks.

You can get a new top installed in 6-8 hours.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It only takes a day to have a new top installed.

I used a peice of an old top and a hot glue gun. It worked pretty well and would hold for a few months. On a 95° day the glue might get soft on a black top.

Thanks for the iron patch idea. I slid it in the tear and used the heat gun to seal it up. Can't hardly tell. It will make it to fall/winter. At that time I will replace the top.
