If you're going to the Car Craft Summer Nationals in St. Paul MN, stop by and say Hello to the Northstar Chevelle Club. Most of us are regulars on TC. Look for us on the east side of Underwood St., between Wright and Randall. We'll be there all weekend, and we'll try to save you a beer. We might have some space for you to park with us if you let me know right away.

This is a great show with over 3,000 cars, vendors, a chassis dyno, burnout contest, and of course the "Miss Detroit Locker Bikini Contest". It runs July 21-23 at the MN state fairgrounds. Information at www.carcraft.com, register at https://www.click4secureprocessing.com/familyevents_secure/register.asp

I'll be there tomorrow... was planning on going today also, but I just got home this morning from a week vacation, and was too tired to drive up, and since my chevelle isn't ready I figured 1 day would be enough for me to wander around.

was hoping to go to that show, sell off excess sheetmetal and parts, but due to high gas prices had to cancel, is there any activity in their swap meet, or is it mostly kickers and lookers??

I went Saturday- it was fun- lots of stuff to look at. And the cars were nice too!

BUT... there were a couple of things that perturbed me a bit. $12 admission? Who came up with that number? It's a bit much for what you get- I just don't see that sort of overhead in that operation. That, and I'm a little torqued to find out after the fact that you can pre-purchase tickets at Checker Auto for $8... well I was just in a gol darn Checker Auto last Monday but they didn't have ANYTHING in their store promoting it.

Another thing odd was the cops booting everyone out at 6:30- I didn't see any "hours" for this thing posted anywhere- not even the web. So, arriving in mid-afternoon, I think I missed some of the cars and things going on. See, Back To The 50's goes much, much later and that's what I expected.

Are burn-out contests usually half a mile away from the spectators? I watched two contestants and it was too much excitment for me.

But it was still fun to see the variety of mods and workmanship. One of my favorites was a silver Fiero with a V8- sweet ride! Another goodie was the Hot Rod Magazine Solstice- pictures don't do it justice... that thing ROCKS! Also, GM had their concept GTO there, and with the fender flares they had on that thing, it was RIGHT ON!!! Classic GM, too late with the good stuff. If the GTO would have looked like that from the get-go, I am certain the demand would have been much much greater.

The burnout contest used to be in the stadium on the track, but they tore that up. They then moved it to the south side in a small parking lot. I didn't even go see it this year as we were up on Machinery Hill by that dyno, and it was too far to walk.

I'm guessing it is for the amount of tire smoke. I like it as much as the next guy, but even where we were, some people were complaining about the burnt rubber smell.

Last year they finished all that work on the Grandstand and the last 2 car craft shows. The burnout contest made it back to the stadium. Its a nice setting for it too. Good Seat for everyone and an overhang so the sun isnt beating down on you.

I was there all 3 days. Even won a 250 dollar door prize as my name was one of the 10 names called all day saturday. A superchips tuner.
