but the color!!!! The g/f and I were out yesterday and my fickleness in the color I want the chevelle to be, I know gets very tiresome. I had a general idea and her and I have tossed a few around but no final decisions. Now I know that it may seem rediculous but I was hoping to keep the main features on the car entirely Chevy. The rims, most interior, color, etc. but after searching the local lot we just couldn't find the right color for the car. So we go to the (cough)ford dealership(cough) down the street and we carefully study a color we had been seriously considering but that we needed to see up close and personal. I've never seen any pics on the web do this color justice but I'll put one up anyway. This is Ford's 'Dark Shadow Grey Clear Metallic code CX' The color is amazing...it's a very nice shade of charcoal but when the light hits it, the color turns silver on the edges of the body lines. Just beautiful. Anyway, I picked up a tube of their touchup paint just in case it had to be computer matched (We felt like such traitors in the Ford parts dept.!!!; we own 4 chevy's not including all our previous ones)
Long story short, expect pics of a very shaved, lowered, and fast 70 Chevelle fresh from the paint shop in just a few more months. graemlins/beers.gif

I LIKE it! A very "rich" looking color - go for it (the car won't know it's got F*RD paint on it ;) )

Chevy used a Shadow Grey paint back then, maybe you need to look at it? graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Mine is painted a 98 DODGE Ram color.
Dodge also has a pretty trick dark gray like that on the 03-04 rams.
Sorry but I dont get the brand loyality everyone is hung up on. Build it the way you wanna.

Pround owner of a BUICK powered chevelle...Eric For me it was the challenge of doing so. My chevelle is going to be "one-off" on many levels and keeping it all chevrolet (down to the paint) was a just another testament to build. It would be very easy to make a 70 Chevelle from different car's parts....
We looked at several colors old and new and a metallic charcoal grey was our goal the entile time but I generally don't like the really dark colors because it washes out prominent body lines...especially on the Chevelles that have very distintive styling. So the metal flake really is what highlights the car with silver accents. The color is unreal...seriously is going to look bad@$$!! tongue.gif

Don't look at as For$ paint. It's just paint that's on a Fo$d. It could have easily been on a Chevy. ;)

Look at it this way, it isn't FORD paint, it will be PPG or what ever and only the COLOR will be "similar" to that on a F0RD. smile.gif Heck, if you were to buy a pint of paint and spray the fender on that Mustang, it wouldn't even match! No, your Chevelle will be painted YOUR color.

I like that color too

I actually like that body style mustang in lowered GT form with some other little style tricks, but I could never own something that has over 5 brothers and sisters in every parking lot in america...

The new mustang blue metallic is pretty sweet too

Yeah, if you see this color in person, it's something else! Someone is custom mixing the paint color for me to match along with making the flake alittle finer so I guess it will be my color and not a "ford" color. smile.gif
I can't wait!

Good luck with the color, I bet it will look sweet. My little brother is painting his 79 Chevey short-wide about the same color

I considered a similar color, but  that 96 corvette blue metallic w/bright white stripes I went with jumps out at you in nice sunlight...

Paint colors are recycled amongst the various automobile makers (includes domestic and foreign)every couple of years. There are only so many formulations out there and it would not be in the paint makers (i.e., PPG, DuPont, Sikkens, etc.)best interest to have a paint formula for every single vehicle model out on the market.

That color looks similar (at least from the picture) to the paint on my 2001 Tahoe. Chevy calls it storm grey. It's a real nice color IMO.

I looked at that Tahoe color closely as well as the Camaro pewter but they just had a tone of gold to them that I didn't want. Yes, it's a very nice color too, though.

I rented a Mustang that exact color once, and it was BEAUTIFUL. Will look very good on a Chevelle's body lines.
