: ss stripes on roof
vipertx Mar 21st, 01, 9:38 PM I am getting ready to paint my car, '70 Chevelle Malibu, and was wondering if anybody has ever painted the roof of a Chevelle with ss stripes. I know they didn't come from the factory like this, but I think I would like it to have the stipes as well. I was wondering if anyone has seen this or done this, and if not should I avoid doing so. Would it lower the value any, because mine did not come with stripes at all. Just wanted to hear a few opinions whether this was a good idea, or if I should leave it as "Original" as possible.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Wes Colby Mar 22nd, 01, 5:21 AM ViperTx, IMHO, do what YOU want to do on your car...it's your ride. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif I'm not sure who it was but there was a Team Cheveller (maybe 1.5-2yrs ago, anyone remember?) that did run SS stripes across the top of his 'Velle. That's what he wanted and the paint job turned out really good.
IF it were me, I'd just keep the stripes where the General originally intended, the hood and trunk. Stripes over the top will appear 'out of place' to the typical 'Joe' on the street because most folks are used to seeing them at the factory locations. But if you're trying to create a unique look, then it should turn some heads...just not sure that roof stripes look 'right' on our cars. There you go, that's my take on it. Let us know what you wind up doing.

Super70 Mar 22nd, 01, 9:18 AM Definitely NOT!! But IMHO..., its your car.
Don_Lightfoot Mar 22nd, 01, 2:15 PM I agree with the general consensus here as far as how it would look. The other thing to consider is that the stripes for the hood and deck lid were not cymetrical (spell ??) to each other if you know what I mean. If you do the roof the stripes would have to be the same from front to back probably for it to look decent at all.
It would be different for sure and if that's what you're looking for then go for it.

Jim72Chevelle Mar 23rd, 01, 12:11 PM I disagree with you all. I like it. I think it looks kinda nice, but you do have to get them lined up EXACTLY!
Didge Mar 23rd, 01, 12:32 PM vipertx,
You need to get in touch with chev-hell. Before he got his SS he had a 70 malibu that he had painted silver with black stripes. He had the stripes on the hood, roof, and trunk. I agree with the other guys, chevy didn't put them on the roof. I think that ford did though on some of their cars.
Anyway it is yours so do what you would like. But I would try to contact chev-hell and see if he has any pictures of his old ride.

BB_Mike Mar 27th, 01, 12:29 PM Viper. Won't it be difficult to line up the strips. AS we all sit now, the front stripes taper "out" and then when it gets to the rear trunk they come back "in" all of a sudden. NOt very linear (smooth flowing).
I see dodge neons with full stripes. don't do it.

vipertx Mar 28th, 01, 5:06 PM Thanks for all the replies, I think I will go with the general consensus here and just put the stripes on the hood and trunk. I saw The Mexican this weekend and didn't care for the stripes as much as I thought I would. Plus it would be a lot harder. Thanks again.
