: Trunk lock from the inside?

Is it possible to open the trunk lock from inside the trunk?
Here's the problem. My son and I are trying to open the trunk on our disassembled '69 Chevelle but have no keys. I've pulled the rear seat out but the metal panel has holes but not large enough to get through. One tail light extension is off but reaching through I still can't reach the lock.
We just aren't really wanting to pay a locksmith to do this if possible (tight budget).
Any ideas will be appreciated!

I think if you shine a good light in there will see that you can use a long screwdriver or tape one solid to a broom handle and from the removed back seat, rotate the lock portion where the tab of the lock cylinder fits through. It's been a long day so either I'm wrong or someone else can explain it a little better.

I put a bunch of 3/8 drive socket extensions together and remove the latch from the deck lid
from the back seat

I don't think you can get a screwdriver into the slot cause the lock thingy is already in the slot

The broom handle trick works good. There is just enough room to wedge a small blade regular screwdriver into the lock and give it a twist. Had to do the same thing myself.

I did a search first under bone head moves and nothing came up. Then under trunk locks and I got this one.

I have a 66 Malibu. I lost the key to the trunk. No problem, I took the glove box lock into a locksmith and had him cut a cut to open the glove box. I know they are a matched set, but that did not work.

My back seat is out, so I shawn (is that a word?) a light in. It appears like there is a platle covering the latch, so I can not use the screw driver trick.

I can see a couple of bolts on the trunck lid that likely hold in the catch. Can some one look on their 66 for me. If I remove the 2 bolts in the trunk lid will that allow the trunk to open? If so what is the nut size? From a distance it looks like 1/2 inch.

Thanks in advance for the help.

BTW - we need another section just for bone head moves, like loosing a key.

I didn't have a key for my trunk either. Since it is a convert it's a little bit easier to reach and get to, however we just reached a looong screw driver in there and above the actual latch mechanism there was a hole with a screwdriver tip size opening. You twist that and the whole thing popped open.

Thanks Dave.

I think the 66 is a little different. I do not think it is possible to reach the lock mechanism from the backside. There appears to be a solid plate covering that area.

We've got a long 3/8 extention. I've unbolted many of them in the wrecking yard to pop the trunk. The bolt heads are 7/16".
