OK, about 12 yrs ago I bought a stripe kit for my SS and never applied it.
Question - this stripe kit is vinyl and has an adhesive backing. Appears to be a sticker. Is this how the current stripe kits are, or should I get a new one?
I'm confused because I also bought a soapy mix about 6 yrs ago that they recommend I use to apply the stripes, but doesn't make sense if the stripes have an adhesive backing.
Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

That is the one, lay the stripes out and mark with tape where you want them. Peel backing and soak the panel and stripe. Apply stripes and using a squeege or bondo spreader in a pinch, start at center and squeege out all water and air bubbles. The soapy mix allows you to move them slightly to get them where ya want them.

Wrap a paper towel around the squeege to absorb the water as you go to eliminate it from creeping back in under the vinyl. Use a heat gun on the edges where the stripe wraps into the door jambs etc. Keep the heat to a minimum-just enough to activate the adhesive and evaporate excess water when you wrap the ends over the panel edges. As mentioned, test fit and mark where the stripes need to be prior to peeling the backing and install. This is way easier than you think. Make sure the car is very clean, wash it with laundry or dish soap to remove all waxes etc. before applying the stripes. Purex Laundry detergent works really good. Bob

Thanks, I appreciate the tips. Glad to hear it's easier than I think, 'cause it taken me 12 years to get the nerve up to do it! (Actually, just re-painted the car, so it's now ready for 'em).
The soapy mix allows you to slide the stripes slightly before it dries in order to adjust the position as required. This is before you peel off the front "backing" on top of the actual stripe. Be sure to position the stripes correctly before applying any soapy water or peeling off the backing from the adhesive (as removed from box). Use vertical strips of masking tape about one foot apart to hold the stripes in place (dry trial run) and mark the final position with short horizontal strips of masking tape about one foot apart along the top edge of the stripe. Use those to align the top edge of the stripe during the installation process.
