i have previously posted about rust bubbles that are develping in various areas...

i have spoken to 4 body shops..

the last one i spoke to (just today) said the magic buzzwords that opened my wallet..

"cut out the rust and weld in sheet metal patches" and
"POR 15" on the inside of the panels after the repair is done

so my baby undergoes surgery on sept 1
i hope to be ahnding out cigars around 9/14

Just make sure they but weld the patch panel solid. Have the seam welded completely. See if they can get the metal straight and use less than 1/16" of filler... then I'll be impressed. Actually, I'd be more impressed if the used lead. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

another shop wanted to use lead...but i was told that was an outdated method and that cutting and welding was far preferable...

whats the deal???

I didn't mean lead to fill it. I meant lead instead of filler over the patch panel.

You dont want lead. The kind of lead used now is no good. You cant get the good lead anymore . You will have problems down the road.Plastic filler is fine and will last a long long time if applied right.
