what is the best way to remove the chrome drip edge on a 68 chevelle?

Believe it or not, use the blunt edge of an old style bottle opener.

And it's stainless, not chrome. Just a technicality.

If they are original GM parts to the car, they fit correctly and should be easy to remove by simply pealing the lower lip upward and working your way from one end to the other. I did it this way on my 68, with no damage. When it came to reassembly, I polished them on a buffing wheel and snapped them back on.

Repros, you may have to use the bottle opener.

thanks for both replies. I am pretty sure they are originals. I stand corrected...stainless it is...shiney stainless!

take it easy removing these mouldings--put some tape over the bottle opener where it contacts the moulding. Start at one end and EASE IT off there using the minimum force required (Note--a lot less force than you use when using the same opener to pop open a beer!).

Better yet use a couple openers to spread out the pressure---if you use too much pressure you will put slight dimples in that stainless in every spot you use the opener---something you may not notice until you re-install the moulding and get it out under some lights at night.

Also--it's easy to distort the bottom edge of the stainless with the little tab that sticks out of the bottle opener and grabs the stainless down there.

Good advice there.
It definitely takes some finesse.
