: Not an 8, not a hardtop
Greybeard Jul 15th, 06, 11:39 AM I went to my first car show yesterday since returning from Hawaii. It was small, about 125 cars, and no particular theme. I took my '65 300 Deluxe 2dr Sedan, 6, Glide, radio delete, dogdishes, all original.
There were about a dozen imports there, all trying impress each other with the amount off distorted sound they could flood the grounds with. I guess I'm getting old AND ****y, because it seemed pretty disrespectfull, but nobody seemed to dare discuss it with them. Maybe the're local gang, or wanna be's.
Some nice rods, a few great customs, a spotless log truck with new paint, a '46 Merc convert to die for, (or maybe die in---black on black on black), a '65 Goat ragtop I'd give up a gonad for, and about 25 or so muscle cars from all 3.
The Chevelle got the Sponser's Choice Award.
I mention this not for your recognition, but for those without the assets to do a car as to the trends today. Stock and clean, hood and trunk closed, in a sea of billet and chrome, the little 300 took the trophy, it's only dress-up being whitewalls.
67RAT Jul 15th, 06, 11:52 AM great,nice job-your type car should win the trophy!!!
see ,the problem is with disrespectfull people is that no-one does address the issue--in my opinion they are not welcome-And I do things to make them aware of that--in a low key way--I dont like it,or most others-- the disrespectfull import crowd seem to driving the hobby into the ground--and after a while the guys like you me and others will not show up because of this--
If a show is quoted a classic car show--than late model cars should be turned away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-thats it and thats that--
anyway--good job greybeard---

BAD415 Jul 15th, 06, 12:05 PM First I'd like to say ...kudos for the win
Hood and trunk closed is the way to go any more.
I get tired of looking at engines, it's a carshow after all.
The body lines are what it's about.
Many people today have no concern for others when it comes to cranking up their subs with "Urban crap". It bothers me too.
There's a whole generation of soon to be hearing impaired people in the years to come. IMO it's selfish stupidity at it's finest.
OLD GANG Jul 15th, 06, 3:58 PM I agree with all of you, all the kids and their ricers have no right to act the way they do at these shows. I'm there to see the cars, not to listen to god knows what these punks think is music, and I'll let'em know it , their punks, they ain't got no balls, that's why they drive ricers!!

Greybeard Jul 15th, 06, 9:15 PM So true, Randy.
The point I hoped to make was, it doesn't take a blown 540, $3000 worth of wheels and tires, $10,000 paint, etc., to impress the people judging. Many very original cars stay home because the owners don't think they compare with what they see in the magazines. They've been caught up with marketing credo: turn a want into a need.
There are many cars now in which the artistic talents of owners and builders reach new highs in eccellence. It's hard to imagine that an original would even been noticed, but it's not the reality. The people walking by DO notice because they are reminded of another time. A time when their auntie or uncle, grandma or cousin, the lady next door or the hardware store owner had one "just like it". They are taken back to another time, something a billet wonder doesn't do. So I encourage those with nice old stockers they plan on doing someday, to clean 'em up and sharing with the people who come out to the shows. Watch their faces as they relive a memory or two, and listen to the stories as to who they knew who "had one just like it". You might even pick up a useless piece of hardware or plaque for your trouble.
As to the guy's with the amps and woofers. It's probably something I need to get used to. Looking back to last night, there were two groups of import guys. One quiet and quite removed from the noisey ones. We can't lump them all together.
Chris R Jul 16th, 06, 2:29 AM Perhaps the car show organizers need to know that imports are a nusiance and dont belong in a crowd of classic cars and hot rods. They do around here.

I just think they should be told to be seen and not heard....All the way across the grounds.

Phil Keller Jul 16th, 06, 11:48 AM Whether you get an award or not, doesn't matter. You're obviously a winner. Nice going.
